Summer when you're a SAHM (stay-at-home mom)

When you have young children, especially more than one, summers can be filled with so much fun and adventure.  They can also be filled with a lot of time-outs, yelling, and frustration.  I don't have it all figured out, but here's what I deduce.

1. Have fun! Let them get dirty, go on adventures, be silly.  They will truly only be this age once, enjoy it. :)

2. It's okay if you're excited for August and school to begin again.  I know I am! Kids are really annoying, arrogant, and rude a lot of the time.  We have to raise and train them to be better in later life.

Giving...

My cute nephew and two nieces request items for them to donate instead of birthday presents.  Such a good idea and paying it forward, wow, impressed!

Examples: Zoe: Socks to give to girls' home, Eli: Boxes of cereal to donate to boys' home, Ayn: Toys to a local daycare

My son, Gibson, returned some of his birthday toys for money and then he went to www.worldvision.org with me and chose to donate clothing/blankets to needy people in another country.

Beautiful.

Car shows!!!

I love car shows.  My husband is definitely a "car guy". :)
Went to a close one today in Springfield, MO.  Plenty of 50-60's model stuff which is great.  We aren't interested in 70's and up.

More of the "rat rod" style is our preference.  :)

Head to another show in the K.C. area in August.  It's called Greaserama! Head to: www.lospunkrods.com and check out what past shows had to offer!

Here are a few pics from a couple of different car shows in the last few years.

Bowser~King Koopa Cookies #birthday party #mario #mariokart

I made these delightful sugar cookies for my son's 6th birthday which was Mario themed.
All I did was:
1. Use a homemade sugar cookie recipe found here: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/easy-sugar-cookies/

2. Ice them with frosting once they were completely cooled

3. Put candy corns standing up

4. Sprinkled green sprinkles on them :)

Lifelong Missouri resident-Pros and cons of moving to and living in Missouri

I live in Missouri, in the middle of the United States.  Some things are good here and some things are not so good.  I've compiled a list for people who have never been here and are considering moving here.
Pros:
1. All seasons-rainy, cool spring
                       hot and humid summer
                       cool, leaves-changing fall
                       cold, snowy winter
2. Missouri has some naturally beautiful areas.  The hills with the trees are pretty amazing in the fall with the leaves changing.

3. Lots of outdoor activities such as: hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, rock climbing, parks, pools, etc.  We have it all!!

4. Schools are good, some great, some not so great.  I'm in the middle on the schools here.  I went to Kickapoo High School, where Brad Pitt went!  It was a great school, but in the Springfield school district there are a bunch of lower income schools.  There are also a lot of rural low-income schools.

5. Downtown.  It's great for college kids that are wanting to party.  It's becoming a little better for families, but not good yet.

6. Farmer's markets.  There are at least 5 in the area on the weekends.  This is exciting!!!

7. Lots of cheap and free kids activities.  From free movies in the summer to discounted bowling to kids eat free nights, there are lots of opportunities.

Cons:
1. Weather is unpredictable.  It snowed in May this year (2013).  That is horrible!

2. Not a lot of diversity.

3. Downtown needs work.  More family friendly opportunities needed.

4. Need more restaurant choices. There are a BUNCH of fast food and fast food Chinese options.  Need more fine dining that is quality fine dining.  Ours are lacking.

5. Housing is pretty affordable.  Definitely compared to the rest of the country.

6. Low crime. Although break-ins are becoming more and more common.
